Situated in the east of Nagoya, a Daimyo Chisen-Kaiyu-Shiki-Teien (a type of Japanese garden with a pond in the center), Tokugawa Garden was rebuilt here in 2005, filling with a kind of Japanese modern culture atmosphere. Furthermore, cherry blossoms in the spring, sunlight filtering down through the trees in the summer, autumn leaves in the fall and snow scape in the winter, superb picturesque scenery of the four seasons impresses people greatly.
In broad garden, waterfall pouring down, the stream running into the Ryusen Lake, a school of Japanese Kois swaying through crystal-clear waters blithely, strolling in such a harmonious and graceful environment makes you dismiss all troubles from the mind, tranquil feelings rush through your soul at the moment.Then your attention is drawn to a high-profile building of Teikan Style ― (Imperial Crown Style, a Japan-west blended architectural style), Tokugawa Art Museum.

Tokugawa Museum opened by donation of Marquis Tokugawa Yoshinao in 1931, a private museum managed by Owari Tokugawa Reimeikai Foundation. The bequest of Tokugawa Ieyasu forms the backbone of Museum’s collection, others are cherished articles of the 1st Lord of Owari, Tokugawa Yoshinao, successors, and something else their families once used.
The museum possesses 9 national treasures of Genji Illustrated Scrolls (the oldest surviving pictorial rendition of The Tale of Genji) , 59 national important cultural properties, and 46 important art treasures, is the only one private art museum where people can know the life and culture of the Tokugawa Bakufu (the last feudal Japanese military government). It’s really a pride to keep surprising variety and the highest quality of the treasures in good condition.

A partial reconstruction of the Ninomaru palace was reconstructed in the Tokugawa Art Museum according to site research, it served as the residence of the lord and the administrative center of the feudal government. The exhibition room space and the displayed artworks constitute a harmonious whole, reflecting the Japanese traditional aesthetical conceptions—expressing structural beauty and whole beauty.

Various exhibitions are held in projects exhibition rooms (No. 7, 8, 9) annually, displaying artworks designated as the registered cultural properties. Especially, order-made dolls and miniature instruments displayed at the Girls' Festival only for princesses of Owari Tokugawa Clan are open to public in February and March. Visitors should be astonished at all excellent and gorgeous artworks which show the magnificent and luxurious style of the three branch families of the Tokugawa house. Moreover, they all are emblazoned family heraldry.

Miniaturized wedding accouterments are made in the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa periods, composed of many dolls of various roles arranged in tiers, reaching proportions of two by seven meters. Only general and daimyo could own such brilliant craft works.
